Pictures!

Aloha everyone! Yesterday was completely exhausting but really fun. I wake up quite early here (6 AM) because of the time difference so I decided to get myself a cup of coffee and read in the hammock near the Dining Lanai. The hammock is suspended between two beautiful trees that drop lilac colored flowers around them. After another delicious breakfast (I'm still learning how to eat here, everything is just too good!) I headed to a Yin yoga class. In Yin yoga poses are held for around 3 minutes - ouch! But they were most sitting poses that stretched the hamstrings and opened the hips, a quiet but intensive class. Then I finally set up my tent! I forgot to take a picture but I picked a nice little spot with some character and I plan to move my things in soon enough. After lunch I had my kitchen orientation with Sammi, the kitchen manager. She's a really sweet woman and showed me the ins and outs of the kitchen (not like I can remember half of it, but in time I'll learn). Then after a quick swim in the pool we were off to the Volcano Park! It was absolutely stunning. What you'll be looking at is what used to be a gigantic lava lake. We walked around half of the rim and then down into and across the hardened lava lake. Finally, some pictures!

Down in the lava lake!

Steam vents...

The lava tube we walked through.

A part of the volcano that was active (gorgeous, it was smoking and looked hellishly beautiful next to the starry night).

These last two are views from the point across the road from Kalani. I was awestruck by the coastline.

Today is my first shift in the kitchen! Expect another post soon!

Aloha!

  1. Looks cool - very rocky! So we need some nitty-gritty details: are people nice? What did you make in the kitchen? Any cute guys??? How is sleeping in your tent?
