Goodbye Brooklyn! Ahola Hawaii!

Packing should be a sport. With prizes. Cash prizes.

My flight leaves at 1:00, flying from Newark to Los Angeles and then from Los Angeles to Hilo, Hawaii.  I'll be travelling for 11 hours but because of times zones, be getting into Hilo at 7:40 PM. How exciting and weird, tonight I'll be snuggled up on my air mattress in my tent listening to the sounds of Hawaii. But for now here I am, in my four-walled bedroom in Brooklyn, getting nostalgic over packing my conditioner in an 'I Love New York' plastic bag. I'm certainly going to miss Brooklyn, but I've had my time here and I'm so excited to see what Hawaii holds. Everyone has told me about their Hawaii but I've tried to keep my mind open so I can take in as much as my experience has to offer. I wonder what the kitchen staff is going to be like...rotund jolly head chef? full of nutrition gurus? Only time will tell :)

Here's the deal with Hawaii for those of you I haven't told: I've volunteered to work as kitchen staff for two months at Kalani Oceanside Retreat (the link is in the first post), a yoga and wellness retreat, in return for access to all their classes and the dining hall. I'll be living in my own tent during these two months, something that  I'm sure will have many pros and cons (pro: peace and quiet in the outdoors, con: no standing up!). That's what I'm doing in plain words but I'm sure I'll be able to flesh out the volunteer experience once I spend a couple weeks there.

A couple blog-related things to end this post: 1. I'm not sure how much internet access I will have so posts may be few and far between but I will try to post as frequently as possible and hopefully with pictures so please do check back! 2. Even if you're not signed up with blogspot you can still comment on my posts (there is a comment option at the botton of each post). I'd love to hear responses/recommendations/advice/hellos.

Here it goes!
